Aunt Khaki got Keegan a butterfly home. So we sent away for the butterflies, hatched them, and just really enjoyed the entire process. It was quite neat!!

Two Words You Don't Want to Hear on a Roadtrip
Can you guess? What two words you don't want to hear on a roadtrip?? So many jump to mind, but these two were definitely not at the top of my list. Until now. Let's do a little background...
It was a Saturday morning. We were going to drive up to Bloomington, IL to see family. Very excited about the trip, we stop at CFA for breakfast. Got the kids their fresh fruit bowl to split. We are eating in the car, music is playing, conversation is flowing. Everything was going great. We were outside of Springfield, IL and making good time. Until. Until, I turned around and checked on Katie. She was sitting there kind of quiet. When I look at her and smile, she says...(these would be the two words that you don't want to hear on a road trip...)
"Apple. Nose. Apple. Nose."
A confused look crosses over my face, while I ask the question, "Did you put a piece of apple up your nose?" (Thinking inside my head - please say No, please say No)
"Yes. Apple. Nose."
Enter panic. We are driving down the interstate, I don't know where, with apple up my two year old's nose! Chad quickly takes the first exit, and pulls over at the first opportunity. We all jump out of the car, racing to Katie's door. I look up her nose, and sure enough, there is something up there. I am dialing our Dr, while Chad & Keegan are trying to look up Katie's nose. Neither of them can really see it. I get ahold of our Dr's office. I push the number to get connected with a Dr, I feel this is an emergency. When I tell the Dr (which by the way was not OUR Dr) the situation, she calmly says please hold. I'm waiting on the phone for about 4-5 minutes. Which feels like an eternity on the side of the road with apple up my toddler's nose! When the receptionist comes on the phone. All this time, I thought the Dr was conferring or looking something up, trying to get me an answer on how to handle this delicate situation. I guess she did not feel this was quite the emergency that I did. The receptionist is trying to schedule me an appointment to bring her in. Had the Dr been so kind as to ask some question, I could have relayed the vital piece of information that we were on the side of the road somewhere in IL!!! But that did not occur. So I was transferred to the phone nurse after this vital piece of information was relayed to the receptionist. (Later I had to be transferred back to the receptionist to apologize. I was upset with the lack of professionalism of the Dr and took it out on the receptionist. Not the Dr could have known to ask where we were, but had she taken the time to ask any questions, perhaps this would not have occurred. But I digress) The phone nurse suggests I try to blow up the other nostril to blow the apple piece out. I know this is not going to work, but I try it anyway. Did I mention the piece of apple was REALLY far up her nose?? When this doesn't work, she suggests we find a Take Care Clinic or Urgent Care.
Ok, no problem. We just need to find Wal*greens. No problem, they are on every corner, right? Not when you need them, they are not. Just for point of reference. We finally find a Wal*greens. And they don't have a Take Care Clinic. But they did give us directions to an Urgent Care.
Fast forward to the Urgent Care. We are waiting in the room for the Dr to come. Katie sneezes and then kind of chokes. I start to panic. Did I mention that my Dr told me that this was an emergency, because their concern was if the apple breaks free and goes into the lung. Oh yeah. What I really wanted to hear. So I look up her nose to make sure the apple piece was still there. It was. It had shifted. I could now see that it was Granny Smith and large. My stomach continues to turn, because I'm just having trouble picturing how they are going to get this out of her nose. The Dr comes in and looks up her nose. She says, "Wow! That's really up there! How did she get it up there?" And then she told me that she would try to get it out, but we may need to go to the Emergency Room to see an ENT. Because of the size and how deep it is up her nose. The piece of apple was so far up her nose, that it was beyond the little separator in your nose. Sorry I don't know the 'official' term. Bridge? Not sure. Anyway, she tries. Doesn't work. So she grabs a different instrument and tries with that one. Doesn't work. She tells me to hold on, and she's going to go get another Dr to try. He comes in, with a nurse. So there is the first Dr, the second Dr, a nurse and me. We are trying to hold Katie down, which she HATES. I am trying to sing the Itsy Bitsy Spider in her ear to keep her calm. Somewhat worked. The second Dr WAS able to pull out the apple with the third instrument. The third instrument looked kind of like a weighted candle sniffer. But it worked!
And if you ask Katie if we put apple up our nose, the answer is...
"No Way!"
Have a wonderful weekend ya'll!!!
